About

Hello! Thanks for visiting and taking the time to read this page!

I live in Kent, UK in a little house with my husband, toddler, cats and a lot of board games. I started this blog to share things across the geek/nerd spectrum that I think are fun or interesting, in the hope that other people will like them too and perhaps give me some recommendations back. I've written a bit more about my interests in particular areas below.

If you're interesting in reading more about how the blog got started, I wrote a whole post about it here. I've also scribbled together a lot of the things I like in picture form:

Games! Tabletop, PC and console

After playing a *huge* amount of Settlers of Catan at University, I developed a bit of a spiraling board game obsession and at this point have over two hundred of the things clogging up my living room in their now-prerequisite overstuffed Kallax shelves. [I'm updating an older version of this page, and just changed that sentence from 'over a hundred'. I think I have a problem!]

My favourite games change all the time, but include: Pandemic/Pandemic Legacy, Hanabi, Mysterium, Caverna, Codenames, Power Grid, T.I.M.E Stories, Above and Below, Castles of Mad King Ludwig and Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective.

Any space not taken up by board games is quickly filled with tabletop gaming miniatures; mostly not mine! My Warhammer army was deleted before I even finished painting it all (RIP Tomb Kings) but I still have two Malifaux crews and a Hunters team for Guildball in desperate need of some paint.

I've loved video games ever since I can remember (potentially brainwashed by the colourful flashing loading screens of the Spectrum Sinclair). I like RTS and simulation games and I've played a few MMORPGs in my time, sinking many years into Ultima Online and then World of Warcraft.

Blizzard still own a lot of my gaming soul, between WoW (which I stupidly reopened after a three-expansion break), Starcraft, Hearthstone and Overwatch, but I also like to play Minecraft and random games on Steam. I'll also buy anything that comes out labelled Portal, Bioshock, Animal Crossing or Pokemon. I'm terrible at shooters, but still love them and enjoy aiming at the ceiling/floor in Splatoon and Star Wars Battlefront if I'm not busy shooting at nothing or picking the wrong character in Overwatch.

Painting

Whilst I don't get to play much, I do really enjoy painting the miniatures and scenery for the games we have. Since having our baby I haven't put aside a lot of time for this, but after two years I'm still hoping the blog will give me some motivation to sort out the painting tray and get something finished!

Making *stuff*

I used to have a lot more time for doing creative things - I liked to make jewelry, work with polymer clay and crochet amongst other things. I have stacks of boxes in the wardrobe relating to these hobby-of-the-month type things that I really need to do something with! Cross-stitch also crept in more recently, because clearly I didn't have enough things to spend my money on...

General nerdly entertainment!

Books, audiobooks, podcasts, film, TV - this is far too big an area to be very specific about. In general I like sci-fi, fantasy, or scary (but not gory!) stories. Non-fiction that I read tends to be science or history based. Listing random things I like: Star Trek, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Firefly, anything Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Neuromancer, Dune, Consider Phlebas, Studio Ghibli, random manga, most 80s cartoons, Eddie Izzard and Bill Bailey. I haven't watched nearly enough films, and I'm told my taste is terrible (my favourites include Jumpin' Jack Flash, Big Trouble in Little China and Clue...)

One day I will also read some of the hundreds of graphic novels adorning the shelves in our living room...
